Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India approved and commenced the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) in the country with the sole objective of monitoring the safety and ensuring quality of medical devices used in the country. The MvPI was formally launched at the Indian Pharmacopeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad by the Drugs Controller General India (DCGI) on July 06, 2015. Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is an autonomous institution of the Ministry of Health & Family welfare and also functions as the National Coordination Centre (NCC) for the Materiovigilance Programme of India. The Materiovigilance Centre functioning under Al Shifa College of Pharmacy (at KIMS Al Shifa Super Speciality Hospital), serves as a Regional Medical Devices Adverse Event Monitoring Centre (MDMC) under the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI). The centre is actively engaged in collecting, documenting, and reporting medical device-related adverse events from clinical settings. The Materiovigilance Office was formally inaugurated on June 8, 2023, by Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Senior Principal Scientific Officer, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission(IPC), Ghaziabad. Subsequently, on July 25, 2023, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy was officially recognized as a Regional Training Centre (RTC) under MvPI by the IPC. This recognition reflects the institution’s continued commitment to strengthening post-market surveillance and promoting patient safety. As an RTC, under the leadership of Programme Coordinator Dr. Dilip C., Principal of Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, and Pharmacovigilance Associate Mrs. Shareefa K., the institution plays a pivotal role in training healthcare professionals, fostering awareness on medical device safety, and contributing to national regulatory efforts through effective adverse event reporting and capacity-building initiatives.
